Three Steps to Refocus in Life and Business

Three Steps to Refocus in Life and Business

Here are three steps I've found incredibly useful when I need to refocus on doing excellent work in life and business:

#1: Put boundaries on the things that distract you during the workday or during the time you spend with your family.

This allows you to be fully present and engaged in your work, or in your relationships with the people that matter most to you. For example, when you’re at work, you can time block a few hours per day without interruption to do your best work. When you’re with your family, you can put your phone away and simply focus on the human-to-human connection of the moment.

#2: Identify the parts of your job where time stands still for you.

Those are the parts of your job that you enjoy the most. Perhaps you can re-arrange your schedule or job description to spend more time doing those things, and less time doing the things that don’t give you joy.

#3: Remember you’re only human.

This means that Mediocrity and Perfectionism will always harass you, but you don’t have to pay attention. It’s your choice whether they win the battle for your heart and mind, or whether you find the Courage to stand up to them. Remember the words of Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right” Remember the words of Max Ehrmann: “be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.”
